What is proofreading?

Proofreading is not to be confused with editing. Editing corrects core issues with the writing, like language clarity and sentence construction, tone and readability, changing the meaning of your text, making sure the ideas in a piece of work are conveyed in the best possible way, for the audience. On the other hand, proofreading deals with misspellings, incorrect or missing punctuation and textual inconsistencies. Proofreading will ideally be the last revision stage of your text before publication.

If you aren’t sure whether you need proofreading or editing services, send you document using the form on this page, and we’ll tell you the available options.

Here are some key differences between proofreading and editing:

Our proofreading service is ideal if you are confident that the language and structure of your manuscript is good, and you only require a basic grammar check to correct misspellings, typographical issues and punctuation errors. Ideally, your document will already have been through at least one edit pass. Our proofreading service acts as the final check before submission.

All our proofreading is provided by highly-qualified, English-native speakers. Good proofreading requires specialist knowledge and experience and provides a much more reliable and consistent error check than anything offered by spell-checking or other automated software features.

Submit your document or a sample we’ll get back to you with a proofreading quote.
